Sweating: the How, the Why and the Solution for Tweens and Teens

How do you know when to start wearing deodorant?
There is no right time and everyone’s bodies are different. You may start to feel sweaty and sticky under your arms, your parent may comment that you are a bit stinky after playing sport or you may start to feel self-conscious.
With so many products on the market and so much information about potentially harmful ingredients, the search for a natural deodorant formulated just for tweens and teens can be difficult.
As a young person, there are already so many things to worry about, so no need to sweat the small stuff because we have you covered at Kids Care Co.
Why Do We Sweat?
Sweating is nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about - everyone does it! Sweating is your body's natural reaction to regulating your internal temperature, and it prevents your organs from overheating. When your body sweats, it's cooling itself down, which is why you'll find that you sweat more when you're engaging in activity that gets your heart rate higher, like playing a sport or running outside.
When sweat leaves your body through your pores, it is almost like water, but it quickly evaporates as it cools on your skin, helping to cool you down. When your body begins to sweat, the liquid mixes with bacteria from your skin and creates a smell.
Hormones play a big part in when our bodies begin to release sweat, which is why late tweens, early teens is a great age to start learning about personal hygiene and deodorant.
What is Deodorant?
Deodorant is a substance that is applied to the skin, most commonly the armpits, to mask the smell of body odour.
Experiencing body odour is an entirely normal phase. Your friends and classmates are likely discovering this all at the same time as you.
What is the Difference between Deodorant and Antiperspirant?
When your body creates the moisture in sweat, bacteria mix with this moisture, and the result is body odour. Deodorants focus on killing off the bacteria which then decreases the odour. With deodorant, you can keep sweating without having to worry about body odour.
Antiperspirant works at the site to reduce the amount of sweat caused in the first place. It dissolves sweat on the surface of the armpit, acting as a plug to your sweat glands. Antiperspirants use different ingredients than deodorants, such as aluminum, which are less desirable given their links to serious health conditions.
Kids Care Co Natural Deodorants
We guarantee that our Natural deodorants are free from:
- Aluminium Salts
- Parabens
- Bicarbonate Soda (can cause skin irritations)
Instead we use natural Australian Botanicals such as Lemon Ironbark, Kangaroo Paw and Honeysuckle which are known for their anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Our deodorant is also formulated to provide extra moisture (so as to not dry out armpits) from Vitamin E and Tapioca Starch which is extracted from the storage roots of the cassava plant. As well as adding softness to skin, tapioca starch helps deodorants to absorb sweat while respecting the natural perspiration of the body.
Our products are all roll on which makes them easy to use and mess free. They are also small enough to stick into a school or sports bag.
