Food for Healthy Tween and Teen Skin

Food for Healthy Tween and Teen Skin

Tweens and Teens may start to notice blocked pores and spots from around age 10 or earlier depending on hormones.

Caring for your skin on the outside through a skincare routine is an excellent habit to form from an early age, however healthy eating plays a vital role in helping tween and teen skin stay clear and bright.

So, here are our favourite foods for glowing, healthy skin:

  • Blueberries

Blueberries are high in antioxidants and packed with nutrients which assist in fighting off acne and protecting skin from free radicals caused by environmental pollution and sun damage.

  • Broccoli

Broccoli can be eaten cooked or raw and is full of so many vitamins and minerals that are essential for healthy young skin including zinc, vitamin A and vitamin C. Broccoli is amazing which is why we use it as an ingredient in our Face Moisturiser!

  • Avocadoes

Avocados are packed with vitamins C, E, K and B6 - all of which are amazing for skin. Healthy fats from avocados also keep skin flexible and full of moisture.

If you don’t like avocadoes on their own how about trying them in guacamole with a few corn chips on the side!

  • Fish

Omega-rich foods such as fish and seafood help protect skin from the sun and pollution. Fatty fish, like salmon and mackerel, are skin boosters as they restore and maintain the skin’s moisture and balance.

  • Olive Oil

The antioxidants in olives have been found to have anti-inflammatory benefits, which are important for keeping skin clear from blemishes caused by acne.

  • Oats

Oats are delicious, especially with a drizzle of honey! They are also good for healthy skin because they contain selenium which protects against cell damage and infections.

  • Leafy Greens such as Spinach and Kale

Leafy greens, particularly spinach provide skin with extra antioxidants for healthy skin cells. Spinach is ideal for protecting delicate tween skin from free radical damage.

Leafy greens contain:

  • Vitamin A: assists with dry, flaky skin.
  • Vitamin C: helps repair the damaging effects caused by the sun.
  • Vitamin E: helps fight irritations of the skin and bacteria build up.

As it is so incredibly good for you and your skin we use Kale in our Face Moisturiser!

  • Tomatoes

While being rich and delicious, tomatoes contain lycopene which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. This means that they are amazing in assisting with acne and in protecting skin from environmental stress including from the sun.

  • Yogurt

Choose a natural or greek yoghurt. Probiotics in yogurt can help manage acne by killing acne-causing bacteria, reducing inflammation and helping skin to maintain a protective barrier.

Did you know that you can also use yoghurt as a face mask?

  • Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content. It may not be to everyone’s liking due to its bitterness, however dark chocolate has been found to increase skin hydration and assist with skin being less scaly and rough.

While healthy foods are definitely a good way to improve your skin, tweens and early teens also need an appropriate skincare regime. So, what is appropriate for this age group?
